Westlake Royal Roofing Solutions is the roofing arm of Westlake Royal Building Products, part of Westlake Corporation, a Houston, Texas-based chemicals and building-products company founded in 1986. The roofing business was assembled mainly from the North American building products operations of the Australian company Boral, which Westlake agreed to buy in June 2021.
The Boral acquisition
On 20 June 2021 Westlake announced an all-cash agreement to acquire Boral's North American building products businesses for USD 2.15 billion. The businesses covered roofing; siding, trim and shutters; decorative stone; and windows. Boral had been a significant producer of concrete and clay roof tile in the United States. The deal was expected to close in the second half of 2021.
Brand
In January 2022, at the International Roofing Expo, Westlake introduced the Westlake Royal Building Products brand, combining the former Boral businesses with Westlake's existing building-products lines, and presented new roofing product lines.
Products
Westlake Royal Roofing supplies roof tile, including concrete and clay tile, along with stone-coated steel and composite roofing products, and related roofing components, mainly for the US residential market. Westlake also owns DaVinci Roofscapes, a maker of synthetic (composite) slate and shake roofing.
Market context
Tile roofing in the US is concentrated in warm and coastal states such as California, Arizona, Texas and Florida. Westlake's entry into the sector placed one of the larger US tile producers inside a vertically integrated chemicals company that also makes PVC and other polymers used in building products. Its current roofing product brands include Newpoint concrete tile, US Tile clay roofing and Unified Steel stone-coated steel.
