Malarkey Roofing Products is a North American manufacturer of residential roofing, headquartered in Portland, Oregon. It was founded in 1956 by Herbert Malarkey and operated as a family business for more than six decades before being sold to the Swiss building-materials group Holcim in 2022.
Ownership
Holcim announced the completion of its purchase of Malarkey in early 2022 and placed it within its Solutions & Products segment, alongside the commercial roofing business it had bought from Bridgestone the previous year. At the time Holcim projected Malarkey's 2022 net sales at about USD 600 million. When Holcim separated its North American operations into the independently listed company Amrize in June 2025, its North American roofing businesses went with it.
Products
Malarkey makes a complete residential roofing system, from asphalt shingles to underlayments and ice and water barriers, plus starter, hip and ridge products. The products are sold through roofing distributors to residential contractors.
Manufacturing
At the time of the Holcim acquisition, Malarkey operated production facilities in Oregon, California and Oklahoma.
Context
Malarkey's sale was one of several acquisitions in the early 2020s in which large international materials groups bought established North American roofing manufacturers, reflecting the size and steady replacement demand of the US re-roofing market.
Residential roofing systems
North American shingle manufacturers, Malarkey among them, typically sell shingles together with matching underlayments, starter strips and hip and ridge caps. Using components from one manufacturer is usually a condition of the extended system warranties they offer to homeowners through certified or registered contractors.
