Amrize is a building-materials company formed from the North American business of the Swiss group Holcim. The separation was completed on 23 June 2025, when Amrize began trading as an independent, publicly listed company. Its activities include cement and aggregates as well as building envelope products, among them several of the largest commercial and residential roofing brands in North America.

Origins

Holcim built up a North American roofing business in the early 2020s. It completed the purchase of Firestone Building Products from Bridgestone on 1 April 2021 and renamed it Elevate in June 2022. In 2022 it also bought Malarkey Roofing Products, a residential shingle maker based in Portland, Oregon. These businesses were part of the North American operations that Holcim decided to separate from its global group, with a full capital-market split.

Roofing brands

  • Elevate: commercial low-slope roofing, including EPDM, TPO and PVC single-ply membranes, polyiso insulation and accessories, with a head office in Nashville, Tennessee.
  • Malarkey: residential asphalt shingles and underlayments.

Significance

With the separation, the former Firestone and Malarkey roofing businesses passed from a Swiss-headquartered parent to a stand-alone company focused on North America. Holcim itself remains listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and retains its operations outside North America.

Commercial roofing context

Low-slope commercial roofs in North America are commonly covered with single-ply membranes such as EPDM, TPO or PVC laid over rigid insulation. Because these roofs are replaced on a cycle of decades, demand comes largely from re-roofing existing buildings rather than from new construction, which gives roofing businesses a steadier revenue profile than cement and aggregates.
