The Confederation of Roofing Contractors (CORC) is a trade association for roofing contractors in the United Kingdom. It was established in 1985 and is based in Brightlingsea, near Colchester, Essex. Its website is corc.co.uk.
CORC members are roofing firms of various sizes spread across the UK, many of them working on domestic (residential) properties. The association provides business support services rather than acting as a regulator.
Services to members
- Insurance-backed warranties. CORC holds authorisation from the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) that allows it to arrange insurance-backed warranties for roofing work done by its members. These are designed to protect the customer if the contractor stops trading before the end of the warranty period.
- Deposit protection insurance, which protects customers' deposits paid in advance.
- Code of conduct that members agree to follow.
- Directory of members for consumers searching for roofers.
- Publications and competitions, including the Roofing Trades Journal for members.
Context
The UK does not have a general legal licence for roofers. Instead, homeowners rely on trade association membership, government-endorsed schemes such as TrustMark, Competent Person Schemes for building regulations compliance, and references. CORC is one of several associations active in this space, alongside the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) and specialist bodies for flat roofing systems.
When choosing a roofer, UK consumers are commonly advised to check membership claims with the association directly, ask what warranty is offered and whether it is insurance-backed, and confirm that building regulations notification will be handled for re-roofing work.
